“I knew from a very early age that my son was going to struggle with the written word. When he was very young he was unable to recite the alphabet, he struggled with letter sound relationships and all prereading skills that we tried to teach him at home. These struggles continued in primary and in the summer between grades 2 and 3 we had a psychoeducational assessment completed. Our son was diagnosed with a severe reading disability, a significant memory deficit and combined type ADHD. The assessment report provided a list of recommendations for learning and a suggestion that we reach out to a place called Connections 2 Learning for reading support. Connections 2 Learning uses the Orton-Gillingham approach for reading support with structured multisensory instruction delivered to the learner one on one. This approach/philosophy is well researched with excellent success rates, which we can attest to first hand. My son is now reading independently, it has been a long arduous road for him but I can say with absolute confidence that he wouldn’t have reached this level of success without the support of Krista and Kelly! Not only are they excellent educators but they build confidence and empower their learners to continue to try despite how difficult it might be. This encouragement, patience, kindness and positive reinforcement is as important as the methodology itself. If your child struggles with reading, I highly recommend Connections 2 Learning, you won’t regret it!” (Jill & Ryan)
Our daughter, Emily, was diagnosed with both dyslexia and dysgraphia after struggling through Grades 1 and 2 French Immersion. We decided to move her back to English for the beginning of Grade 3. Knowing she would be well behind the rest of her new class, the psychologist also recommended we enroll her at Connections 2 Learning, where Kelly and Krista, in addition to being teachers, are trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and is designed to teach literacy to those struggling with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. With Kelly and Krista’s love, dedication, support and help over the past 2 years, Emily will finish Grade 4 reading at an appropriate grade level for the very first time. This is something that Emily never could have accomplished on her own. Kelly and Krista are amazing and I would highly recommend anyone with a child who is struggling to read and write to consider Connections 2 Learning.
As proud as we are of Emily and how hard she has worked to meet this incredible milestone, the confidence and pride that Emily now has in herself is amazing, and that is the most important thing of all.
